New idea for my fellow paintball brothers…

For my fellow paintball brothers who have to apply to colleges, I am posting you a little idea I came up with for the letter the colleges ask you to write. In today’s world it is really hard to get accepted by the college of your choice. So, you have to apply to several colleges to increase the odds of your acceptance. Some people at college admissions don’t think team sports are of any value and they don’t get paintball at all. So, I came up with this letter to describe my paintball experience as if it was a part time job…without the boredom.

My last six years have been pretty much consumed by school and my part time job, which requires travel. My part time job requires hard work, quick thinking and communicating with my co-workers. The job involves independent decision making in a team atmosphere. By working together to achieve a common goal, we are able to overcome objections and deal with rejection. Managing my time effectively between eighteen units a semester and a job that requires domestic and international travel has allowed me to experience many more real life challenges than my peers. Ultimately my part time job experience has taught me many life lessons applicable to life after college. In order to achieve, you must first set goals, establish a timeline and measure your results. Once you understand where you are, compared to where you want to be, then you can work to accomplish your goals.

I’ll be attending Cal State Fullerton in the fall as a Junior. Check out to keep up to date, check out some pics or watch vids.

Huntington Beach 2010. Entourage finishes 5th in first Pro tournament

The prelims went well. We lost our first game to Blast but weren’t fazed by it because for some reason we seem to always struggle with our first game of the event. We quickly got back on track winning the next couple games we had early in the day. We ended up 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 flag pull which put us in to the Sunday Final round. On Sunday in the pro division, it’s top 8 and you play 7 games. You need to win 4 games typically to advance to the top 4. We won 3, lost 3 really close games all coming down to the last 30 seconds, and stale-mated 1. All-in-all we did pretty well for our first pro event only missing the Top 4 by 1 point!

Newport Entourage is steppin’ it up.  Watch us in Chicago.

Phoenix – Newport Entourage

The Phoenix Xball tournament was a great refresher for Entourage. We haven’t played Xball as a team for like three years and we added some new players for this season. Our goal was to learn from the experience and win the tournament.

We accomplished both goals. Our play was a little inconsistent as we tried to figure out how to make adjustments during the game. Xball punishes you if don’t recognize opportunities quickly, but hopefully you can fix the problems on the next point. The prelims went ok for us and we ended up not earning a bye on Sunday. Unfortunately I was injured Saturday and couldn’t play but I was ready for Sunday.

It seemed like having to play the extra quarterfinal game on Sunday helped most teams in the Semis. We had to play Elevation in the Quarters, SK Moscow in the Semis and then RNT AllStars in the finals. The finals were a tough match and we ended up winning the Phoenix event.

The 2010 Xball season will be a great experience for Entourage!

Las Vegas

Vegas was a good event. Real fun and convenient being right near the strip. The prelims went well for us even though we still had a 6-game penalty that carried over from the DC event. We had to play down a player for 4 of the games in the prelims, and to make things worse, a player on the team got ANOTHER 3-game penalty right when our 6-game came off.  So we played 7 of the 8 prelim games with 6 guys. Somehow even with the odds against us we managed to be ranked the highest in our divisional prelim games placing us as the number one seed for Sunday.

Finals went well for us like the rest of the events this season we placed 1st giving us a perfect record for the season and making us the Semi-Pro USPL Champs.

Look out for Entourage in 2010! We’re coming hard.

DC Challenge USPL Semi-Pro – Dynasty Entourage

DC- PEVs was a great field to have an event at. I hope they have another event out there next season. Weather was pretty good overall, but still hot and humid like every paintball event. Prelims went really well for us. We practiced really hard and knew the field very well. Our hard work paid off because when Sunday came around we proved ourselves by getting 1st place against Arsenal Evolution in the finals. During the finals we received an over shooting penalty in the first game and got a 6 game suspension. This meant we had to finish the finals playing 6 on 7 against Aresnal. They ended up taking the next game because we lost too many bodies off the break making it almost impossible to win. After realizing we would never win if we couldn’t survive off the break, we changed our game plan a little for game 3. The game came down to a 2 on 4 (me and Collette) vs 4 Arsenal players. Collette and I have many years of playing together in Finals so we were not worried in this situation. I made a move that the Arsenal players didn’t see and capitalized on the situation taking out 2 Arsenal players while at almost the same time Collette shot out the other 2 Arsenal players. So we ended up taking 1st place again, versus Arsenal Evolution.

West Coast Open USPL Semi-Pro – Dynasty Entourage

Corona- Thanks to Gio for having an event so close to home, it was great being able to win a USPL at SC Village. Prelims were a little rough. We started out by beating all the harder teams and ended up getting ahead of ourselves and lost a few games because we got sloppy. Like always, after making mistakes we went back with our coach Rodney Squires to review what went wrong. After figuring out what needed to be fixed, when Sunday Finals came around, we cruised through and ended up taking 1st against Arsenal Evolution, which included B Short and Nicky Cuba.

Chicago X-ball PSP Semi-Pro – Aftermath

Chicago- Me and a few other players from Entourage helped out Mike Hinman’s team, Aftermath, by guesting for the team. Great bunch of guys and a great team. The tournament was hot and humid! We went through the prelims undefeated in our matches. Sunday we played a quick match against team XSV in the finals and ended up taking 1st place.

Huntington Beach USPL Semi-Pro – Dynasty Entourage

Huntington Beach- was a great event, lots of people showed up and watched, and the competition was great! we went 6-2 in the prelims which was good because we got our mistakes out of the way for Sunday.Sunday/Finals we ended up taking 1st against our biggest competition Arsenal Evolution, which includede B Short and Mike Paxson.

Mark Lack Biography

Like most little kids I had been to birthday parties and gone paintballing. We did the rental guns and were all scared to death. I didn’t even know speedball and hyperball existed. Then in 2004 my friend invited me to join him in a 3 man paintball league. Sounded like fun so we went to the old Tombstone paintball park and joined the P.L.A.Y. League. Wow! Looking back on that seems like sooo long ago but playing hyperball was so much more fun then any recreation game I had ever played.

The league was for beginners and young guns and a few sandbaggers as we discovered. We were complete newbies but we were hooked. My first team was named Black And Blue…I think you can get an idea how we came up with that name. The league was organized like a series tournament with points accumulated from week to week and was instructional.

As a result of the P.L.A.Y. League I was dedicated to playing paintball. My friend and I joined forces with another  team from the league that was Captained by Dan Gestine and started our own 5 man team called Break 50. We played soo many tournaments back then it is hard to remember them all.

We played three man, five man and seven man tournaments. I didn’t even know X ball existed yet! As we expanded into a seven man team we picked up my dad as one of our players. We played the XPSL Series and NPPL HB and there we learned that national level competition was much tougher than what we had experienced. We knew we needed more work.

As Break 50 we grinded every weekend and practiced hard on our own. Then by chance my dad met Gio, owner of SC Village, GIANT Paintball and HSP fame, at a golf tournament and Gio told him about a clinic that we should attend given by Rodney Squires. Basically, that changed my paintball career.

We had only practiced on our own so we had no idea how much we didn’t know. The clinic was mind blowing for us and we felt like we couldn’t wait to play every week. A few months later Rodney started coaching us regularly. As we learned from our coach and our losses are games improved a lot. My dad decided he should coach. Break 50 finished 2005 strong by winning the Bears Cup Series. We also blended our team at the end of the season with a couple of new players from Circle Factory and played as RXN. We placed fifth at NPPL Miami won the five man at Cal Jam and won some cash at the RIOT tournament at Warped. I went to Birmingham, England that year to play in my first Millennium Series event. What an experience to play overseas. Crazy new rules, foreign languages everywhere, hundreds of smoking players, driving in the wrong lane, tiny cars and even smaller hotel rooms…very cool! Luckily I have been able to go back and play in Belgium also.

During that off season we started from scratch and held a big tryout for our new team, DYNASTY Entourage. A new commitment, a new dedication and a desire to win! For the last three seasons Entourage has been the most consistent divisional team on the national paintball circuit.

2009 will be another year to continue the winning tradition!
